FAQ
How is this different from TranscriptAPI or other transcript MCPs?
Those are hosted services with credits and API keys. toolkb runs on your machine through npx – free, unlimited for personal use, and your requests do not go through a third-party server.
Does it download the video?
No. It only reads the captions YouTube already shows viewers (uploaded or auto-generated). Videos without any captions have no transcript.
Can I get it in another language?
Pick any caption language the video offers with the lang parameter, or simply ask your assistant to translate the transcript.
Does it work with Shorts and live streams?
Yes – watch, youtu.be, shorts and live URLs, or a bare 11-character video ID.
